Taiwan (7) - Day 4 - Fo Guang Shan Monastery

If Fo Guang Shan Memorial Centre can be likened to the size of a baby elephant, you will begin to discern what a mammoth Fo Guan Shan Monastery is. By the time we arrive, it was a little before 7 pm, and we quickly placed our luggage in the dormitories and ate the vegetarian dinner buffet prepared. I liked how quiet the place is - it is a stillness that cannot be duplicated. It seems to emanate from a genuine place of contentment and place.

Of asking nothing of the world.

We woke up at 5.30 am to join the monks in their morning prayers. The sound of the chanting, mingled with a crispness in the clean air, was beautiful. As if you were hearing love being distilled out of itself - not a small exclusive love, but a great expansive love that encompassed and accepted everything.
